Style Challenge

You might remember about a year ago when Je Suis Prest Boutique (JSP) hosted a style challenge on their Facebook page (as shown above). All you had to do was post a picture of yourself wearing an ensemble from the uptown boutique on their Facebook page for the chance to win a gift certificate to the store.

And now, a year later, this contest is back. Kiera, owner of JSP, is offering $100 to their best dressed customer. From now until January 20, you can post a picture of yourself in your favourite JSP piece(s) on their Facebook wall. On January 20, they'll be putting all the photos in an album where FB fans can vote on their favourite look. The winner of the challenge (person with the most votes) will score a $100 to spend at the store!

Find something to wear- not a problem. Now to pick a favourite, that takes some serious consideration!

enlisting your assistance...

I was so honoured when the lovely Kiera Fraser (owner from the wonderful store I never stop talking about: Je Suis Pres Boutique) mentioned my blog and I in her latest article in KV Style: A few of my favourite things...some great local blogs provide great inspiration. Thank you Kiera for the kind shout-out. Also featured were fellow lovely bloggers Barb of barbbarbbarb.com and Kate of O My Heart!

And speaking of Kiera and Je Suis Prest: she has launched a style challange and competition for people to choose their favourite outfit out of ladies who have submitted their photo sporting goods adopted from Je Suis Prest!

Yours truly (along with 26 other stylish ladies) has entered the following outfit for the possibility to win a $100 gift certificate to Je Suis Prest Boutique in addition to a photo shoot with local photographer Sean McGrath!

Here's where I need your help: the winner will be picked January 31 based on popular vote! Please head to the Style Challenge Album (on the Je Suis Prest Boutique Facebook page- which you may need to "like" first) and comment on my picture to cast a vote for me! Your help would be beyond appreciated! I'll admit: I'm up against some stiff, but especially lovely, competition!

the 30 for 30 picks...

What is the 30 for 30?
If you follow the style blog Kendi Everday, you might have heard of the challenge Kendi has taken on a few times now and has invited other bloggers to join her this time around.

So here's how it works:
1. We pull 30 items from our closets (includes shoes, tops, bottoms, but not accessories and coats).
2. Over the next 30 days we only remix the 30 items into 30 (or more) outfits.

Is there a catch?
There sure is. There's also no shopping for 30 days. For a girl like me, that will definitely be the major challenge. The part I'm looking forward to is the real purpose behind the challenge: to learn to work with what you've got and be creative: to appreciate what you already have and really explore what you can do with it.

So I'll admit my exception from the standard rules up front. Honesty is the best policy, don't you think? I plan to follow the shopping band with exception to this coming Thursday (I've had a shopping trip planned with my sister and Mom to the states- but I also wanted to take part in the challenge). If anything is purchased on that date, it cannot be worn until the 30 days has past.

So for the next 30 days, 337 other style bloggers have jumped on board for the Fall Fashion Challenge. Click here to see the complete list. If you're on twitter, you can check the #30x30 hashtag to see what bloggers are tweeting relative to this challenge. You'll find the badge below in the left column posted among all of us participating.

hello

So let's cut to the chase...
I'll introduce you to the 30 items I've chose to reduce, and that I'll reuse in order to remix for the next consecutive 30 days, grouped together according to type of garment. So here we go!

(Note a last minute substitution: the yellow sweater is being replaced
with a military shirt.)

Check back tomorrow for outfit #1 of 30!

my 2nd appearance in...

...What I Wore! As I mentioned in my last post, Jessica Schroeder of What I Wore announced a second style challenge for style bloggers with a theme she called "Sweet & Rough"- the mix of opposites that work- combining a feminine, romantic piece with edgier, toughier items.

You can find my picture on her post, in the 5th group of pictures, 3rd from the left. These ladies came up with some really neat ideas and pairings! Go to Jessica's blog and check out some of their personal style blogs. I've had fun participating in these challenges (the first being Breton Stripes)- can't wait to see what's next!

I'll be adding a column or tab soon to my own blog to share my favourite fashion and style bloggers that I check on a regular basis!

sweet/rough...

On her blog, What I Wore, as well as on her twitter page, Jessica Schroeder issued another fashion challenge to us fellow style bloggers:
"WIW Weekend Style Challenge: Sweet/Rough. I wanna see how you take one delicate piece and mix it up with something edgy! Deadline: MON MIDNT"
So I peered into the extensive depths of my closet and tried to brainstorm an outfit. I also lightly browsed the racks of my favourite shops (something new always makes an outfit feel special), but when I woke up on Saturday moring I randomly picked up 2 pieces of clothing out of my spare room and mentally filled in the rest of the blanks. I took a romantic piece and mixed it with a few edgier, textured pieces. Here's my translation of a look that combines aspects of "sweet" and "rough".

Please excuse the garbage I somehow failed to notice...oops.

we all wore...

As a follow up to my last post, today has been declared (unofficially) Breton Stipes Tuesday and 52 fellow fashion lovers shared their appreciation and take on the Breton stripes, as posted on What I Wore!

My outfit is featured in the 4th group of photos, top row:

It was fun to check out how the other girls styled the stripes and a great chance to discover some other personal style blogs I liked. One of the girls, Kate, is even a fellow New Brunswicker! Check out her blog, Oh My Heart!

Despite the fact that it was quite windy and a bit rainy that day by the harbour, it was a fun experience. Can't wait for another style challenge!

breton stripes tuesday

Last Wednesday, Jessica Schroeder of What I Wore posted on Twitter:

"I think it would be awesome fun if all my fashion blogging friends wore Breton stripes next Tuesday (as in, post outfits then). Who is IN?! "

I decided it would be fun to participate in such a group event- but then realized I don't currently own anything with Breton stripes!

as featured on Who What Wear
on Wednesday

First order of business was to obtain some navy and white stripes! I found an $8 t-shirt from Joe Fresh Saturday and I already had the site for photos in mind. The next morning I put together the outfit to promote a modern nautical look and headed uptown to shoot the photos near the boardwalk with the harbour in view!

What:
Breton stripe t-shirt- Joe Fresh- Superstore (Saturday)
White pants- R&W Co. (Last month, 30% off sale)
Brown braided belt- Eddie Bauer (Moncton, 4 yrs ago)
Brown head scarf- Coach (Toronto, May '09)
Red pumps- Spring Shoes (Sept '09)
Pearl earrings- American Eagle (Dec '09)
Pearl bracelet- Le Chateau (Dec '09)

I'll follow-up with links to others' outfits participating in Breton Stripe Tuesday!
