bonne fete...

Last Tuesday I leaped into my late 20s...officially. I had dinner with friends and B at the Alehouse in my current favourite dress. When I tried this BB Dakota number on earlier this month in Je Suis Prest, it was the perfect fit. And I just couldn't say no to the pink blazer below when I spotted it in Envy that same Saturday afternoon!

Last week was a busy week! One of the many things on my to-do list was attending Industry Night in Riverview on Thursday evening- and I may have worn the pink blazer again! (It's not that bad to rewear within the week it's not the same group of people, right?) Anyways, I have to say that Saint John dominated in attendance at this event! We all had the opportunity to chat about how Atlantic Canada is viewed as a fashion market and talk about the potential and need for growth of the fashion industry in New Brunswick (especially considering the Maritimes are host to 3 design schools)!

baby it's cold outside...

I don't think I've ever paired this top with bottoms other than a pair of leggings- just because of it's long, loose fitting nature. I try to fit loose tops with form fitting bottoms, just to have some shape to the ensemble. But since I've got a number of outfits left in the remix of 30 days, I am going to have to try something other than the usual formula to strength 30 items into 30 outfits!

That's one good point to this challenge I've been embarking on with 336 other bloggers that Kendi Skeen of Kendi Everyday started and arranged. The challenge of making your items stretch in your imagination and coming up with other combos and outfits that you may not have put together before: stretching outside the usual and still being stylish!

The Outfit

(Faux) leather jacket- La Classe Couture- Winners (Toronto, Sept '10)
Top- 03 Everly- Pseudio (SJ, Oct '10)
Black leggings- TNA- Aritzia (Toronto, Sept '08)
Booties- Aldo (Toronto, Sept '10)
Belt- Le Chateau (Halifax, Nov '07)
Long-sleeve tee- H&M (Toronto, Sept '10)
Necklace- Anne Marie Chagnon (Montreal, June '09)

The first...well, second...snow this season (the first occured very late on Halloween night and melted as the sun came up) I grabbed my camera and tripod, deciding it would be a good idea to catch the flurries in my outfit photo. I feel this outfit lacks a little creativity...perhaps a belt, but it was just one of those days where I needed to be out of the house quickly and the top priority I required of my outfit was comfort- my job often has me sitting on the floor, climbing under things; so really, a restricting outfit in anyway isn't practical. I wished I could wear more dresses and skirts day to day, but for the same reasons that doesn't really work out either! (Hence while I wittled my selection down to just one dress for my 30 items).

The Outfit

Military shirt- Mango (Toronto, June '10)
T-shirt- American Eagle (SJ, Oct '10)
Cords- American Eagle (
Shoes- Aldo (Halifax, Sept '10)
Necklace- Charm Diamond Center (gifted from B, May '10)

Can't believe this marks the last day on November! Since the Holidays draw closer, Ive converted my shopping wishlist (see the tabs at the top of the page) into my Christmas wish list!

cozy & comfortable...

...is how I would describe my new Kensie faux fur cardigan (see last post) that I won from their Watch Me Change Giveaway. (Thank you!) The Kensie website now features an online store and you can even get $25 off your first purchase!

Last night I had just gotten back from Miramichi where I had been away for work purposes the last few days. And my Saturday I was to have an early morning attending a course, so sitting, listening, and learning for the majority day required an outfit that would be comfortable (accompanied by morning caffeine)!

This was the first opportunity I had gotten to wear the faux fur cardigan since it arrived on my doorstep Wednesday via Fedex. As a neutral colour it's fairly easy to pair with items already in my closet. Since it provides a little more bulk to my shape on top, I choose a pair of bottoms that were slimming: my skinny cargos. I also threw on a lovely headband I had picked up at Silver Daisy's grand opening (and 20% off sale) as I went out the door. I was glad I choose a warm sweater and boots because I easily get cold but managed stayed warm throughout the day.

This is also the first day I used my tripod! The one I had wanted (cheapest that was fully adjustable) was out of stock when I went to Futureshop this week, but I left the store with the display model for $10 off the price!

The Outfit

Sweater- Kensie (won from blog giveaway, Oct '10)
Skinny cargos- Paige- Envy (SJ, Oct '10)
Brown tee- American Eagle (SJ, Oct '10)
Headband- Silver Daisy (SJ, Oct '10)
Brown boots- Aldo (Christmas gift from parents, Dec '09)
Necklace- Charm Diamond Center (gift from Ben, May '10)

goodbye summer...

It seems that Earl sweeped in and sucked the heat out of the air. In New Brunswick, he seemed to be a sad excuse for a hurricane, but despite the lack of wind and rain, he did take something from us it seems. Anyone else find it a bit odd that last week were melting in the humidity and this week we're pulling our sweaters from binds we had stored away? Are we saying goodbye to summer already?

Labour day weekend I found myself in lovely St. Andrews standing in the wedding of my friend Marielle, and the next day is when I noticed the change. Saturday afternoon I was running around the Algonquin, with hair and make-up done, helping with last minute preparations for the wedding and desperately searching for some loose powder to tone down my "glow". The next morning, when B and I walked out onto the roof top garden, it was if the warmth had been sucked from the air, and there was that chill in the air that warned that autumn was closing in. Hopefully there will be a few more hot days in it for us, but for now, last Sunday was the last time I put on a sun dress.

The Outfit:
  • Purple silk dress- Gap (Dartmouth, July '07)
  • Green belt- French Connection (Toronto, June '10)
  • Gladiator sandals- Sam Edelman (Montreal, June '09)
  • Leaves necklace- Charm (gift from Ben)
After we packed up, we headed down to Water Street to browse the cute shops and get some lunch. The wind prompted me to grab a beige hooded cardigan from my suitcase before I zipped it up and tossed in the trunk. I took some pictures as we walked by the water in this quaint, historic, seaside town.

last days of august...

I cannot believe it's already become September! This summer has flown by. During the last couple of days in August Ben and I were taking a few country drives with the windows down after getting our regular Starbucks! (haha I like to joke we're an old couple) Last night we drove up the Saint John River to visit our friend Laura (who was home for a bit- she lives in Bermuda now) in the little historic town of Gagetown. We had a few drinks at the local pub- the Old Boot, got a few mosquitos bites while we were at it. Saturday Ben and I cruised out to Grand Bay to pick up a few things we'd left at my parents' and then took the ferry and drove across the peninsula, stopping for ice cream at the other end in Hampton!

The Outfit

  1. Dress- Dept- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, May '10)

  2. Bronze belt- American Eagle (SJ, at least 5-6 yrs ago?)

  3. Green braid head band- the original belt from my dress!

  4. Leaf necklace- gift from Ben (May '10)

  5. Sandals- Sam Edelman- Olam (Montreal, June '09)
I last posted this dress when I got it back in May and Kiera let me know she had a dress that was perfect for me in her store. Although, this is only the second time this Dept dress has appeared on my blog, it has been my go-to dress this summer for something ccasual, omfortable, breezy, and easy to move in. Perfect for shopping (easy to get on and off, compared to wearing multiple pieces) or really hot days! This time I switched things up a bit and threw on a different belt and decided to use the dress's fabric belt to hold my hair back.

Check out some of the photo-logging I did from our drive across the peninsula.
