spring fling!

Last night I attended the Spring Fling fashion event in the Market Square atrium. The event, titled Project Runaway Saint John, was a fashion show and a fundraiser for the Saint John Boys & Girls Club. There was tables of hor d'oeuvres, cocktails, and wine, as well as a silent auction.

The program: 

Most of the shoes were from Manchester Shoes. Clothing from Envy and Samuel & Co. with purses from Walsh Luggage. Hair styles were also featured from Ambiance Day Spa.

In the end, all the ladies in attendance received a prize!

I checked out Walsh Luggage and Manchester Shoes following this. Manchester had a few shoes I fell in love with but unfortunately didn't have them in my size (but a lot of their stock had been out for the fashion show so I'll have to go back to double check!):

One thing I do like about shopping uptown in locally owned stores and boutiques as compared to the experience in a chain, mall, or box store is the service. I don't know if it was just the sunshine or the onset of the weekend but when I went shopping Friday afternoon everyone in Brunswick Square and Market Square seemed to be in a great mood and very friendly! I received excellent service and everyone was very customer focused! (Have you felt in the mall or in a bigger store that you have to play eyeball war to catch a salesperson's attention, or search between racks to see if they actually exist?)

I grabbed a tall non-fat no foam carmel machiatto from Starbucks and then headed into Je Suis Prest, where I was greeted by Kiera and Joy, always looking so cute and stylish! I had been reading in Harper's Bazaar online that one of the upcoming summer trends was loose-fitting pants, which I wasn't buying into until I saw Kiera sporting a pair of menswear inspired pants and she was totally pulling off the look! (I now wish I had asked her to take a photo of her outfit..)

I was loving the new Free People clothing (which I may need to make another trip back in to browse through again), but was giving the sale racks a lot of attention on this visit. I found a BB Dakota tan blazer on sale for $27.00 (reduced from $110)! I've been adopting a love of stylish blazers lately- especially well tailored ones that aren't full sleeve, so that you can neatly roll the sleeve above the elbow- I have one in grey, but very tempted to purchase one in white (which is a very in colour for the summer). It's a great way to dress up many outfits. I was told this blazer is a copy of one put out by Dolce & Gabbana.

Back to Friday- I paid a visit to Walsh Luggage. The sales lady was very friendly and talkative- and we share our mutual love for clothing shopping uptown, haha. She also mentioned the Spring Fling event on Wednesday (which I picked up a ticket for today!) and said that it will even feature clothing from Envy (which isn't opening for almost another 2 weeks), so great way to get a sneak peek.

I made a quick stop over in Baubles on my way back through Brunswick Square. The lady there was also very attentive and friendly. She even complimented me on my shoes! (Actually, I think I may have had a few people tell me they liked my shoes :) ) Although they are pretty and perfect for spring, I had to agree with her, they fall into the 2 hour wear category! (And I may have had to switch to black flats when I went grocery shopping after this...)

Later that evening, I got dressed up in my new American Apparel dress that I bought last weekend, slipped on a pair of nude heels and then Ben and I headed over for a few drinks at Shauna's place, followed by appetizers and bevies at Churchill's and dancing at O'Learys!

Last night, myself, Erica, Katie and Allie got together for a girls' night in of dinner and a Sex and the City marathon! We watched a few episodes from season 4 and then bumped it up to the movie, which came out almost exactly 2 years ago. I remember a few of my friends in Halifax and I were a few of the first people lined up to get into the late viewing of the show opening night. We stood there, dressed up in our pretty heels and waited in line for almost an hour to ensure good seats (success was achieved).

I can tell you (and I'm sure my feelings are shared by many) that I am pretty excited about the sequel, set to be released Thursday, May 27! I'm not sure whether or not that will result in a theatre viewing in Saint John to occur that evening or Friday- but I can assure you I will be buying a ticket to the movie's opening night here.

We can see the following pieces to the plot-line are going to unfold: The girls somehow manage to score an all expenses paid trip to Abu Dhabi! Carrie catches Big flirting with a Spanish woman (Penelope Cruz)....but things are further complicated when she bumps into ex-fiance Aiden (John Corbett) in Abu Dhabi.

It was fairly popular in many cities a few years ago, when the first movie was in theatres, for women to get dolled up and don their stilletos in order to dress the part! I can say that I will be sipping a Comopolitan that evening and I'm currently searching out a pair of new heels for the occasion (stay tuned)!

spring fashion event uptown!

This Wednesday, May 5, I'll be heading uptown to the Market Square Atrium for the Spring Fling Fashion Event. I feel this is a perfect opportunity for a special blog post as well as a chance to see fashion from the uptown shops for this and spring/summer- which will help direct my shopping and some of my upcomming post ideas and themes! The event organzizers are promising an evening of "glamour and luxury"- sounds fun to me! When browsing the shops this Friday afternoon, the sales woman in Walsh Lugguage told me a little more and verified that it is a fashion show, complete with food and drink, as well as plenty of prizes and giveaways!

The event starts @ 5:30pm and goes until 9:00pm. I'll definitely be there and would love some company or to see you there! The tickets may not be cheap at $35, but there there is food (hors d’oeuvres) and many chances to win- and the most important thing is that 100% of the proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Club (a very worthwhile cause to spend your money on while enjoying yourself!).

work wear...

So week before last I decided to photo log my outfits for a work week to post- I thought it would be a turn of pace since I usually only share my weekend style. My outfits usually reflect my mood or sometimes how much energy I had that day- most times when shop I try to buy pieces that would be appropriate for work (yay, business casual!)- aka. all bits are covered. That way I can justify cost per wear! But, of course, I can't wear those mini dresses or low cut tops to work, but it's nice to play it up a bit on a weekend social outting!

I had just bought this top the day before and I always love the feel of wearing something new! I'm never one of those girs who might buy something and find it in my closet months later with the tag on. New items are fresh and exciting to me!
