If you remember, about 7 months ago, a group of creatives in Saint John came together in the stunning White Room for a fashion photo shoot titled Saint John Cut. A second round was organized by Barb Crawford, who brought everyone back (plus a few additions) for another fashion shoot and creative collaboration between photographers, make-up artists, stylist and wardrobe personnel, models, bloggers- and a hair stylist and designer this time around!

I spent the day styling outfits, carting and setting up wardrobe (as well as ensuring the clothing didn't get dirty on-set)! I also took the opportunity to play with my DSLR and shoot some behind-the-scenes photos.

neon & neutral: behind the scenes...

As I mentioned last week, I've had the pleasure of writing the fashion blog for my favourite shopping centre in the city, Brunswick Square. Last Monday I was scouting out clothing and models for a trend (amateur)photo shoot. The trend I decided to try and capture was "neon and neutrals". I personally haven't put this look together myself, but it's been commonly popping up in some of my favourite fellow bloggers' posts (i.e. Pretty Shiny Sparkly and Atlantic Pacific).

I decided to pull clothing and accessories from a few shops in Brunswick Square (Je Suis Prest Boutique, Baubles, Colwell's Mens, Colwell's Ladies, and Pseudio) to put together a few outfits that demonstrate the neon and neutral trend on a few real-live people! Lyndsay, Doug, and Julia volunteered to be my models! Laura, Chanel make-up artist at Perfumes Plus, lent her skills and time to do make-up. And my friend Allie came and helped me out with her camera and worked it like a pro! (And our other friend Katie came to help out and watch Allie's adorable 6 month old son Klein.)

It was a lot of fun to step behind the camera for once and play creative director for an afternoon. I am planning on continuing with blog posts like this for the Brunswick Square Shopaholic- so I'd love to hear what trends you'd want to see me try my hand at putting together!

Since March of this year, I have had the pleasure of writing a blog for my favourite shopping centre in our great little city: Brunswick Square. As you all know from my posts and tweets, I practically live there anyways! Taking on this project has also given me the opportunity to give credit and attention to some of the great stores in Uptown Saint John. To take a look at the blog posts to date, be sure to visit Brunswick Square Shopaholic! Saint John Cut Revisited

In early March, I participated in Saint John Cut: a fashion photo shoot bringing collective of creatives together in Uptown Saint John's White Room. Among the crew there was a stylist, make-up artist, bloggers, models, and photographers. Included in the group of local photographers was the talented Sheldon Parsons.

More recently Sheldon kindly gave me a CD with the high resolution images he edited from the photoshoot.

Not only does he produce great work, I find Sheldon to be someone who is extremely easy to work with. It can be a little daunting working with a professional- especially when you are used to having just a tripod hold the camera when snapping your photos! I find his relaxed, friendly personality will definitely put you at ease.

There's been some great local photographers I've had the pleasure meeting over the last year- Sheldon is definitely one of my favourites who's blog and work I enjoy following. Below I've included several of my favourite photos from some of his recent projects:

I absolutely love jewelry by The Barber's Daughter- I love that a lot of their pieces are chunkier and I find the script on many of the pieces to be a nice touch! I also found myself falling in love with the beaded turquoise and garnet pieces by Chris Danisch.

accessories photoshoot! (part 1)

Recently I met with Joanna Carson Skead, manager at Handworks Gallery, to collaborate on an accessories photoshoot and display some of the beautifully crafted jewelry they have in-store. Handworks Gallery, located in uptown Saint John, carries works created by over 80 artisans in New Brunswick. They carry an assortment of one-of-a-kind pieces that include pottery, jewelry, wood turning, blown glass, photography, paintings.

Choosing a number of beautiful pices from their glass cabinets, I had such a difficult time narrowing down my favourite pieces for the photo shoot- I fell in love with so many! After selecting half a dozen looks, Joanna and I took to the beautiful lobby in Center Beam Place to photograph the jewelry, styled with my outfit. All photos were taken by Joanna with my camera- we had fun picking out the different structural and textile elements in the lobby to use as backdrops!

My favourite piece out of all the selections above would have to be the sterling stud earrings by Jeneca Klausen. It wasn't displayed in the pictures above, but one of the studs is actually intentionally larger than the other (with the larger one being featured in the photographs).
