Saint John on the web

I"ll be honest- I don't know what I'd do without the internet. It's my source for catching up on the latest trends, tuning into world news, making plans with friends, or find out what's going on in Saint John this weekend. Here are some of my favourite links I've encountered this week that have local content:

  1. Professional photos by Kelly Lawson and Mike Capson from the Urban Glam Party posted.
  2. Perfumes Plus shares a sneak peak at the new Chanel Spring 2011 cosmetic line.
  3. The Urban Shoe Myth is offering 25% off their holiday shoes for the remainder of the week.
  4. An article I stumbled upon that lists many reasons why it's important to shop local.
  5. Manchester Shoe Salon and Pseudio are both offering tax free from now until Christmas.
  6. Market Square is giving away a $500 shopping spree each Friday until December 23.
  7. Profile written on shop owner Kiera of Je Suis Prest Boutique.
  8. Brunswick Square is also doing a giveaway promotion titled $1000 reasons to shop locally
  9. Beat the Winter Blues Facebook Competition involving multiple uptown Saint John businesses.
  10. Fusion is hosting Merry Martinis, a cocktail party in support of Romero House, next week.

What was the best or most interesting thing you saw on the web this week? (Let me know in the comments below!)

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! I'm kicking it off with a Christmas party tonight at the Delta- can't wait to wear a new dress! (It has sequins.)

Perfumes Plus Holiday Party

A few weeks ago, you may have caught the announcement about Perfumes Plus' upcoming holiday party via the Brunswick Square Blog. The event date has since changed and Perfumes Plus will now be hosting their annual Holiday party tonight, in-store, at 6pm.  Perfumes Plus can be found on the ground level of Brunswick Square.

As promised, there will sales to take advantage of throughout the day, which include 30% off select products. Perfumes Plus will also be launching the Chanel's Holiday 2011 Collection. Chanel is bringing a lot of beautiful, limited edition products to the table with this holiday line made up of rich golds, festive reds, and beautiful neutrals.

The event will also feature make-up and nail demons, as well as prize draws. Every purchase today enters you in to a draw to win a holiday gift from Chanel!

There will be Chanel limited edition gift sets available for purchase, which include the brush set or lip gloss duo featured above.

Personally, my favourite Chanel cosmetic product (aside from their eye concealer I use daily) would be their nail polishes. They may cost a pretty penny, but they are honestly worth it- it's definitely one of those products that you get what you pay for. Above is my current collection of Chanel polishes. Last night I painted my finger nails with the Coromandel (second from the left above) and it only required one coat!

If you love Chanel as much as I do, you should pop on over to Barb's blog and enter her giveaway to win for the chance to win a free Chanel manicure from Perfumes Plus! (Contest is open until this Friday, Dec 2, at noon.)

Need to pick up something pretty for your friend or sister, stocking stuffers, or a hostest gift? Be sure to drop by later today for some refreshments, shop the sales, and trial the new Chanel products at Perfumes Plus- I'll see you there!

Will you be dropping by for some time with Chanel today?

Brunswick Square Fashion Show...

Last Wednesday kicked off a couple weeks' worth of fashion focused events with Brunswick Square's annual fall fashion show. Make-up was done by Perfumes Plus, using Chanel cosmetics. The models' faces were marked with the iconic double C logo of Chanel, as done in on recent Chanel runways. A few stylists at Hairacy's created looks styles for hair that, in their own right, were attention-grabbing.

At the door we received a program for the show as well as a bulleton for the Fashion Forward event (that I blogged about last week), which includes a list of what special things the participating stores will be offering and a coupon for a specifically prepared fashionista cocktail at the Canterbury's after party.

Below is a selection of my favourite outfits from Brunswick Square's fashion show:

The scene was decorated by Spurs.
The initial preview walk \.
Front row seats.
Loved this retro hair style by Adam Donnelly.
Chic look from Colwell's (Ladies).
Loved the leopard print blouse as well as both pairs of boots
Colwell's is carrying more ladies footwear this fall
Great admiration for these Michael Kors bags from Colwell's (Ladies).
This bedazzled bracelet was an eye catcher (Colwell's).
Beautiful plum dress with mesh top from Ladies' Colwell's.
Elegant winter coats from Ladies' Colwell's.
Beautiful dress and blazer, accessorized with a
wine Co-Lab bag from Je Suis Prest Boutique.
Loved the cheetah pumps (The Urban Shoe Myth) and this animal print dress-
these 2 looks from Je Suis Prest Boutique were my favourite.
Feminine pink dress from Je Suis Prest Boutique.
This faux fur vest on the right from Olsen Europe was another favourite item of mine.
From these Je Suis Prest Boutique looks, I adored
the mustard sweater and the pretty brown skirt.
Faux leather jackets from Pseudio are a chic addition
and I'm a fan of these booties from The Urban Shoe Myth.
Handsome suits from Mens' Colwell's.
The real show-stoppers were the little ones modelling for Paddington Station.
These cuties melted hearts.

Brunswick Square, along with their participating stores, did an amazing job and somehow even managed to outdo themselves from last year's impressive fashion show. It was a great opportunity for Saint Johners to see the latest styles and must-have items from their favourite stores as while supporting a great cause in Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

It made an incredible difference having an SLR camera this year, that's for sure! Check out my blog post from last year's show here.

fashion events..

After a week and a bit of a hiatus, I'm back to blogging! Not that I ever wanted to take a break...but sometimes a busy streak in life can cause any of us to go MIA once in a while...but with so many local fashion events coming up, there is so much material to cover!

Such an example would be Silver Daisy Design's upcoming Sex and the City Soiree on Friday, the first annual fundraiser fashion show to be held in memory of Dr. Anthony Lordon. The event will be hosted at the Lily Lake Pavillon on Friday, October 14.

Last week, some local fashion bloggers were invited to the shop after hours to. We've been invited to participate in a fun side project related to the fashion show!

Post-meeting Kate, Candice, Barb, and I found the perfect spot for shooting outfit photos- it was a lot more fun to shoot photos with pals than doing it by yourself! (Thanks to Kate for taking my outfit photos.)

The Outfit: Dress: BB Dakota- Piperlime (ordered online, Sept '11) | Boots: Aldo (gifted, Dec '09)
Necklace & Bracelet: Aldo Accessories (Moncton, Aug '11)

Silver Daisy's fashion show isn't the only fashion-related event on the horizon in the next month. Have you already purchased your tickets for Brunswick Square Annual Fall Fashion Show next Wednesday, Sept 28? Last year's event was sold out, so be sure to stop by a participating store to pick up your ticket!

Be sure to also book off the evening of October 6 on your calendar! Next post (to be up either later today or tomorrow at the latest), I'll let you know more about Saint John's shop hop version of Fashion Night's Out: Fashion Forward.

neon & neutral: behind the scenes...

As I mentioned last week, I've had the pleasure of writing the fashion blog for my favourite shopping centre in the city, Brunswick Square. Last Monday I was scouting out clothing and models for a trend (amateur)photo shoot. The trend I decided to try and capture was "neon and neutrals". I personally haven't put this look together myself, but it's been commonly popping up in some of my favourite fellow bloggers' posts (i.e. Pretty Shiny Sparkly and Atlantic Pacific).

I decided to pull clothing and accessories from a few shops in Brunswick Square (Je Suis Prest Boutique, Baubles, Colwell's Mens, Colwell's Ladies, and Pseudio) to put together a few outfits that demonstrate the neon and neutral trend on a few real-live people! Lyndsay, Doug, and Julia volunteered to be my models! Laura, Chanel make-up artist at Perfumes Plus, lent her skills and time to do make-up. And my friend Allie came and helped me out with her camera and worked it like a pro! (And our other friend Katie came to help out and watch Allie's adorable 6 month old son Klein.)

Julia checks her jewelry in the mirror at Baubles.
Models (Left to Right): Doug Belding, Julia Higgins, Lyndsay Lovely
Laura Smith does Lyndsay & then Julia's make-up for a natural, warm look.
I try different accessories on Lyndsay and Julia.
Adjusting Julia's outfit during the shoot.

It was a lot of fun to step behind the camera for once and play creative director for an afternoon. I am planning on continuing with blog posts like this for the Brunswick Square Shopaholic- so I'd love to hear what trends you'd want to see me try my hand at putting together!

To check out the finished product on neon and neutral, be sure to check out this week's blog post on Brunswick Square Shopaholic.

the next level of style...

Since March of this year, I have had the pleasure of writing a blog for my favourite shopping centre in our great little city: Brunswick Square. As you all know from my posts and tweets, I practically live there anyways! Taking on this project has also given me the opportunity to give credit and attention to some of the great stores in Uptown Saint John. To take a look at the blog posts to date, be sure to visit Brunswick Square Shopaholic! New blog posts are featured Monday & today, my post on the Live Life Awards and who was wearing what from Brunswick Square shall be up!

Launching Brunswick Square Shopaholic was just part of Brunswick Square's online make-over. If you haven't seen their new website, click here to pop on over and take a look! Pulse Communications was responsible for Brunswick Square's new virtual look while Hemmings House shot the photographs for the website revival. In the video below, get a behind-the-scenes look at the photoshoot that took place throughout the shopping centre and featured fashion from some of my favourite stores within:

i love coco...

...is what my Maison Scotch t-shirt reads. This is what broke the straw off the camel's back and caused me to spoil my shopping fast. (So I guess it's fair to say it was more of a shopping diet...) Maison Scotch is a new favourite brand of mine (found within the confines of Envy), with their cute t-shirts, button-ups, and blazers- each having a unique, quirky add-on to the piece (whether it be a necklace, handkerchief pocket square, or bow tie). In this case, my Chanel lovin' tee came with the dandelion necklace that hangs around my neck in the photos below.

Finally, my hair is long enough that I can pull it into a ponytail or a bun without stick a million bobby pins into my scalp. I'm really only growing it out for the purpose of a wedding day updo- only to have it chopped off again. When it get's this long, it's harder to hold a curl, and becomes a big mass that just gets in my face, therefore I spend most of my time wearing it up. Keeping it shorter makes me accountable for actually styling my hair and not defaulting to the easy way out. This look I like to call my ballerina hair-do. Keep in mind that I'm neither graceful nor did my ballet training extend past the age of 4.

The Outfit

T-shirt: Maison Scotch- Envy (SJ, Apr '11)
Cardigan: Kensie- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, Dec '09)
Jeggings: Guess- Envy (SJ, Dec '10)
Flats: Blowfish- Little Burgundy (Toronto, May '09)
Purse: Fossil- Manchester (gifted from B, Dec '10)

Loitering outside the bottom entrance of the Alehouse, this outfit I wore on a wedding-errand Saturday with B. We had just embarked on an early supper, having visited floral designer Sandra Miller to pick out and plan flowers for the wedding and completed the task of registering at Decor8 in Brunswick Square (we also registered at Sears). Tuesday afternoon we head out to Rothesay to round out our wedding registries with PGal's Closet!
