mother nature...

I appologize for the lack in blog posts last week- my laptop was attacked by a virus and frustatingly enough I wasn't able to remove it myself. I took my computer over to Cyber Solutions on the lower west side, and after paying double for priority service, my baby was back in my hands in less than 24 hours. All I have to say is beware of the Win 7 Anti-Spyware virus- it's a hoax that hackers have set up to get you to buy their program online that will supposedly wipe your system of viruses you supposedly- but actually do not- have. Even if you're like me and aware enough not to fall for this scam, it still interupts everything you do on your computer and doesn't allow you to open some programs. Frustrating indeed. Thankfully I'm back into the blogging swing of things!

This outfit I wore a couple of weeks ago to have coffee with Natalie from Manchester Shoe Salon uptown at Starbucks. Of course, this was followed by typical browsing of the uptown shops. I'm happy to say that I'm slowly phasing out this winter coat. In fact, yesterday I was out running errands only wearing a cardigan over my tank top! It's officially starting to feel like spring!

Colonel Mustard...

...did it with the candlestick in the observatory!

I know, you must be incredibly tired of listening to me whine about the snow, cold, and the blistering wind on the east coast here. Because of yesterday's weather, outfit photos outside were a no-go...there was no way I was taking off my coat and mitts!

And speaking of outfit photos, I'm excited to have local photographer Sean McGrath snap my outfit photos (featuring a few new wardrobe additions) this Saturday! This weekend is fairly jam-packed! Saturday I'm subject my hair to a long overdue cut and colour, followed by the afternoon's photo shoot. That evening I'm looking forward to a girls night out uptown, anticipating that we'll end the night with a few dance moves at the Canterbury Lounge. Sunday morning, I'll be pulling myself out of bed bright and early and lugging my previously-loved items to Rhoda's for Out with the Old & In with the New! (I still need to do a final pull of items from my closests...the fact that closet is plural is largely why I need to clean out my closet again!) Hope to see you there!

The Outfit
  • Sweater: Kensie- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, Sept '10)
  • Dress: ModCloth (ordered online, Jan '11)
  • Leggings: C'est Moi- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, Oct '10)
  • Boots: Aldo (ordered online, Oct '09)
  • Necklace: Banana Republic (Freeport, Nov '10)
  • Headband: Club Monaco (Halifax, July '10)

Also worth mentioning: are you going to The Salty's (celebrating Saint John's social media community) tonight at the Saint John Ale House? (The event runs from 5pm-7pm). I'll be jaunting across town to get there after work today! Check out all the talk generated about these media award nominees on twitter via the hastag #saltys.

Don't forget to check back later today to find out the winners of the Silver Daisy Designs Giveaway! Thanks again to the lovely Kate Lordon sponsoring this giveaway by providing the beautiful jewellery set and giftcard to her store! I've also got another surprise for you all tomorrow...

biker chic

Yesterday afternoon I headed uptown to meet Katie, sip on a Starbucks latte, and then set off on a browsing venture of the clothing racks in Pseudio and Je Suis Prest Boutique. I was on a mission to find an animal print tank or t-shirt, with little luck. I am a bit surprised that I've scoured the shops of Saint John and haven't come up with much given that animal prints are on trend right now. But I have to admit, we're seeing them mostly in accessories (scarves, shoes, etc.) or in the form of faux fur coats and vests. I just had a desire to pair my new Paige skinny cargos with some feline-esque stripes or spots. Instead, I settled for another cute top from Pseudio, to be featured in an upcoming post.

The Outfit

Faux leather jacket- Winners (Toronto, Sept '10)
Long grey tee- Abercrombie (New Hampshire, April '09)
Black leggings- TNA- Aritzia (Toronto, Sept '08)
Black and gold skinny belt- Chinese Laundry- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, Oct '10)
Black wedge booties- Aldo (Toronto, Sept '10)
Gold chain headband- Club Monaco (Halifax, July '10)
Black leather purse- Coach (Toronto, Sept '10)

The reason I chose this particular ensemble- the cotton pieces make it oh so comfy but the leather (real and not) give it a bit of edge to dress it up a bit.

the wait pays off...

So Friday not only marked the first day of October, but also the day I visited Envy to claim my Paige skinny cargos! For the past month I've been paying towards them on lay away: the shopaholic's source for enabling expensive taste!

In late August the girls at Envy convinced me to try on the J Brand Houlihans and the Paige cargo skinnies. I was playing with fire because of course I had to go and fall in love!

Although I appreciate how great Houlihans look on other stylish ladies, they weren't for me. I loved the darker olive shade of the stretchy Paige pair. I know I really splurged on this one, but skinny cargos really topped my list of fall must haves!  And I hear they will be sticking around for spring... but I tend to go with what looks good, and what feels comfortable! And I will tell you that these are incredibly comfy!

The Outfit

  • Faux leather jacket- Winners (Toronto, Sept '10)

  • Brown tank- Club Monaco (Halifax, March '07)

  • Skinny cargos- Paige Premium Denim- Envy (SJ, Oct '10)

  • Snake print heels- Guess- Manchester Shoe Salon (SJ, Feb '09)

  • Hat- Urban Outfitters (Montreal, June '10)

  • Necklace- Splurge (Halifax, Feb '07)
That night I was heading uptown to Katie's apartment for a girl's night of drinks and dancing. We found ourselves dancing at the Canterbury Lounge, followed by very tastey hotdogs on the street corner!

I know of a few girls that did, but did anyone else take advantage of Envy's tax free weekend? If so, do share what you purchased!

Coincidently, Kate of O My Heart! is wearing skinny cargos too in her blog post today! Check out her outfit by clicking here.

grecian gold...

As a follow up to my last post re: the opening of Twisted Muse, I wanted to share with you the dress I purchased from the new fabulous store on Spring Garden in Halifax. I wore this outfit Monday and it was very comfortable and breathable: perfect for such a warm day!

The Outfit

  1. Dress- lovelygirl- Twisted Muse (Halifax, last Saturday)

  2. Gold skinny belt- H&M (Halifax, last Saturday)

  3. Gold chain headband- Club Monaco (Halifax, last Saturday)

  4. Gold snake print flats- Michael Kors- StyleSense (Toronto, Sept '08)
Aside from a pair of Lululemon shorts and a leather cuff from H&M, this outfit pretty much sums up my finds in Halifax last weekend!

Has anyone visited Twisted Muse yet? Make any purchases?

martinis in multiples...

Saturday night Alex and I went to Katie's uptown apartment for a drink before strolling down to the boardwalk to have cocktails at Boilerworks! We all ordered the martini flights off the drink menu- 3 x 1 oz martinis- and this week's variety was a tropical theme. Very tastey!

My outfit for the small and intimate gathering:

The Look:
Grey blazer- R&W Co. (April '10)
Black v-neck tee- American Eagle (Summer '09)
Purple skirt- Club Monaco (Halifax, Spring '09)
Studded heels- Aldo (Toronto, Dec '09)
Headband- Splurge (Halifax, Feb '10)

sunday sun...

On Sunday it wasn't the perfect late spring weather, but the sun was shining so I could forgive the slight chill in the air. (I'm sure all those outside the city enjoyed higher temperatures! but at least we fair better than uptown.) For some reason I've been constantly drawn to cute, comfortable dresses lately- maybe I was just sick of wearing long pants and multiple layers for so long or perhaps just a need to celebrate the onset of our short warm weather season!
The Outfit:
Yellow cropped sweater- Club Monaco (Halifax, 2 yrs ago)
Yellow and grey sundress- Everly- Pseudio (Aug '09)
Black fabric belt- Noa Noa- Je Suis Prest Boutique (2 weeks ago)
Black 3 1/2 inch wedge sandles- Calvin Klein- Manchester (2 weeks ago)

Sunday afternoon B and I headed out to Starbucks for a treat and then I asked him nicely to take me by Indigo to buy the latest copies of Harper's Bazaar (my fav) and Marie Claire (because it was featuring Sarah Jessica Parker!)

And then Katie and Jaclyn came over later to watch The September Issue- a behind-the-scenes look at Vogue's editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and the extensive (and expensive!) put together of the 2007 September Issue (the largest issue put out annually). Anna Wintour`s pressence, influence and control is wide-spread and rather impressive profound in the world of fashion. You can actually see how some aspects of The Devil Wears Prada could perhaps be based on reality... I loved Grace Coddington- straight forward but has a brilliant sense of creativity and vision- essential traits if you`re the creative director of a top fashion magazine.

work wear...

So week before last I decided to photo log my outfits for a work week to post- I thought it would be a turn of pace since I usually only share my weekend style. My outfits usually reflect my mood or sometimes how much energy I had that day- most times when shop I try to buy pieces that would be appropriate for work (yay, business casual!)- aka. all bits are covered. That way I can justify cost per wear! But, of course, I can't wear those mini dresses or low cut tops to work, but it's nice to play it up a bit on a weekend social outting!

Monday
What:
Light grey top- RW & Co. (30% of sale the previous day!)
Black pants- Ricki's
Leopard print ponytail scarf- Coach (Toronto Dec '09)
Crystal heart necklace- Swarovski (gift from Ben 2 yrs go)
Black flats- Steven by Steve Madden- Town Shoes (Toronto Dec '08)

Why:
I had just bought this top the day before and I always love the feel of wearing something new! I'm never one of those girs who might buy something and find it in my closet months later with the tag on. New items are fresh and exciting to me!

Tuesday
What:
Cream coloured belted short-sleeved sweater- Abercrombie (Bangor Nov '09)
Brown jeweled tank- Abercrombie (Bangor Nov '09)
Dark brown pants- RW & Co. (Dec '09)
Gold flats- Michael Kors- Style Sense (Toronto Sept '08)
Gold necklace- Swarovski (gift from Ben)

Why:
I started with the sweater, going for comfy but cute! Under this sweater, since it's loose, I try to wear something form fitting. Then I went for gold accessories because they coordinated with the tank.

Wednesday
(Photo unavailable)

Thursday
What:
Purple blouse- RW & Co. (2 years ago)
White pants- RW& Co. (30% off sale earlier in the week!)
Brown flats- Aldo (ordered online 1 yr ago)
Pearl bracelet- Le Chateau
Missing: Multi layer pearl necklace- it broke that morning in a meeting! :(

What:
The pants were new so I started with that piece and thought the purple wold be a nice contrast.

Friday
What:
Yellow cardigan- Club Monaco (Halifax 2 years ago)
Flowered loose tank- American Eagle (2 years ago)
Skinny jeans- Nissi- Pseudio
Cherry flats- Keds- Athlete's World (Fredericton 4 years ago)
Necklace- Anne Marie Chagnon- Beckwith & Co. (gift from my parents)

Why:
Something loose and comfy on the upper body because we were driving to Halifax and I had to sit in the car for 4 hours! The pants, although they are very form fitting, are amazing comfortable too (love pants that have a bit of elastic quality to them)! I was happy to see Friday, so I went colourful!
