labour day wedding...

So what to do when you have a closet full of dresses but none seem to do the trick..? Go shopping of course! I've been trying to keep "just because I want to" shopping trips to a minimum as of lately to ensure I can afford my must-have list for Fall. Yet, despite the fact that I have plenty of dresses, all seemed too casual, didn't fit, wrong season, white (eek) or were just too serious (black). Also, here brought forth an opportunity to add that something burgundy from my fall wish-list...

The Outfit
  • Dress: Pink Martini- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, Sept '11)
  • Belt: Old Navy (SJ, Aug '11)
  • Sandals: Guess- Manchester Shoe Salon (SJ, Feb '09)
  • Necklace- Splurge (Halifax, Spring '08)
  • Bracelet- Le Chateau (Halifax, Fall '07)

Whoa, does the natural light ever bright out the pale in me! I assure you, I haven't been hiding in a cave all summer as my complexion might suggest.

This was an outfit I wore to my friend Kate's wedding this past weekend outside in the Rothesay Commons- gorgeous location and I'm so glad our tempermental climate decided to cooperate for her that day! She looked absolutely gorgeous- there's just something about friends in white dresses that makes me a little misty eyed. (This was also the first wedding I've attended where I didn't have to get up to catch that bouquet at the reception.)

Thanks to Joy for helping me pick out this dress the night before!

black & white...

Last Friday, we finally got out hands on our wedding photos! We went out to KV to pick up the DVD containing 1200+ shots from our photographer, Lynette Mason of Mason Photography. We're really happy with the variety and quality of photographs and feel they really do represent our wedding day!

On our way back into Saint John, we made a pit stop at the Rothesay Commons to use the beautiful greenery and stone bridges as back drops for outfit photos! It's actually the perfect spot my friend Kate has choosen for her labour day weekend wedding coming up!

underground...

Last Thursday marked the first official Saltys: Saint John's social media awards. It was large gathering at the Saint John Ale House to mix, mingle and announce the winners:

Twitter Person of the Year: Anne McShane @feelgoodsj (Owner of the Feel Good Store)
Best Facebook PageHemmings House Pictures (Filmmakers)
Coolest Blog: Saint John Ale House- Peter Stoddart (Local restaurant)
Best Use of Social Media in a Campaign: Mel Norton Campaign for Common Council (City Councillor)

After the event, a few of us including Kate (O My Heart!) and Kiera (Je Suis Prest Boutique) headed downstairs to the pub for a drink and a bite to eat. I took advantage of being parked in a heated underground parking lot and shot my photos with the help of my trusty tripod afterwards!

The Outfit
  • Pink t-shirt: Joe Fresh Style (SJ, Jan '11)
  • Pants w/ suspenders: ASOS (ordered online, Jan '11)
  • Pearl necklace: Forever21 (Montreal, June '10)
  • Pearl bracelet: Le Chateau (Halifax, Fall '07)
  • Black flats: Aldo (ordered online, Oct '10)

This year has really been a year of growth for social media. More than ever people and businesses alike are looking to find information, seek entertainment and communicate via mediums such as blogs, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube... I know they are a huge connection for me and my blog.

baby it's cold outside...

I don't think I've ever paired this top with bottoms other than a pair of leggings- just because of it's long, loose fitting nature. I try to fit loose tops with form fitting bottoms, just to have some shape to the ensemble. But since I've got a number of outfits left in the remix of 30 days, I am going to have to try something other than the usual formula to strength 30 items into 30 outfits!

That's one good point to this challenge I've been embarking on with 336 other bloggers that Kendi Skeen of Kendi Everyday started and arranged. The challenge of making your items stretch in your imagination and coming up with other combos and outfits that you may not have put together before: stretching outside the usual and still being stylish!

The Outfit

(Faux) leather jacket- La Classe Couture- Winners (Toronto, Sept '10)
Top- 03 Everly- Pseudio (SJ, Oct '10)
Black leggings- TNA- Aritzia (Toronto, Sept '08)
Booties- Aldo (Toronto, Sept '10)
Belt- Le Chateau (Halifax, Nov '07)
Long-sleeve tee- H&M (Toronto, Sept '10)
Necklace- Anne Marie Chagnon (Montreal, June '09)

The first...well, second...snow this season (the first occured very late on Halloween night and melted as the sun came up) I grabbed my camera and tripod, deciding it would be a good idea to catch the flurries in my outfit photo. I feel this outfit lacks a little creativity...perhaps a belt, but it was just one of those days where I needed to be out of the house quickly and the top priority I required of my outfit was comfort- my job often has me sitting on the floor, climbing under things; so really, a restricting outfit in anyway isn't practical. I wished I could wear more dresses and skirts day to day, but for the same reasons that doesn't really work out either! (Hence while I wittled my selection down to just one dress for my 30 items).

The Outfit

Military shirt- Mango (Toronto, June '10)
T-shirt- American Eagle (SJ, Oct '10)
Cords- American Eagle (
Shoes- Aldo (Halifax, Sept '10)
Necklace- Charm Diamond Center (gifted from B, May '10)

Can't believe this marks the last day on November! Since the Holidays draw closer, Ive converted my shopping wishlist (see the tabs at the top of the page) into my Christmas wish list!

fond of flannel, pleased with plaid...

One thing I've always admired on other girls is a cozy plaid button up shirt...but I've never found one that was particularly the right colours or the right length on me. And then for a while, I parted with the idea of incoporating plaid flannel into my wardrobe...that is, until last week.

I was browsing the Joe Fresh stock in Superstore when I came upon the subject of this post. I loved the colour combination and the shirt looked long enough to pull off leggings. I didn't think casual cool could get anymore comfortable than that! (I actually tweeted about the shirt from the dressing room.) I was also pretty pumped that it was only $19- seriously, how can you beat that?

Can you tell that it was just a little windy the day we snapped these photos?

The Outfit
Plaid top- Joe Fresh Style- Superstore (SJ, Oct '10)
Leggings- C'est Moi- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, Oct '10)
Boots- Aldo (gift from my parents, Dec '09)
Necklace- Le Chateau (Halifax, Aug '07)

I cannot believe how difficult it is to get your hands on a pair of brown leggings- they are far and few between! Luckily Kiera had a few selections in stock at Je Suis Prest Boutique for me to try on. The one's I ended up purchasing are actually a plum but look for brown- I supposed it depends on what you pair them with.

So, I know some people live by the rule not to wear leggings as pants. I'm a little more liberal with my guidelines to wearing leggings: they absolutely must cover the crotch (I cannot believe I am typing this word, it's just not a pretty word, even when you say it in your head haha) and at least cover some or all of your bum. Shirts or dresses must be an appropriate length- and it really depends on your audience. For instance, with this outfit, I was only running errands and having lunch with B- nothing that required a specific dress code aside from being decent in public.

OH, and I have some fun news to share! First I must say, if you are not already following Kendi Everday (style blog of Kendi Skeen), you really should take a look. She does this thing every once in a while where she chooses 30 items of clothing from her closet (that includes shoes) to wear for 30 days. It's all about creativity and remixing outfits. Well this time around, she's invited other bloggers to get in on the fun, and I decided this would be a fun and creative challenge. There is only 1 challenging stipulation: there is no shopping (for yourself) for 30 days either! Eeek. 30 for 30 starts on Monday, November 8! new beginnings

This past week has been a very busy one- tying up loose ends at one job to leave and start another one! I'm going to miss my awesome and amazing co-workers but I'm excited for a change in my career! (Tomorrow is my first day!)  At work on Friday, we had cake at break and my co-workers gave me such pretty flowers and a card!

Later that evening, Ben & I had a double date planned with Brent & Chamila at Churchstreet. But to my shock, when we walked upstairs, I ran into a whole table of my friends who I've worked with- including Chamila! Turns out they had planned a surprise good-bye dinner for me! No one has ever planned any surprise event in my honour so I was pretty touched. We all had a great night...I think we were at the restaurant for almost 4 hours! And I was so pumped about the gift they gave me...it was a necklace I had been watching:

Necklace: "Queen for a Day" by Dogeared (from Je Suis Prest Boutique)

And another card...this one sings!

(Thank you so much guys)

Although I'm excited for the next step and a new job, I am going to miss seeing these people every day! But I always believe in staying in touch and keeping up with friendships. I'm not going that far away anyways :)

Here's the outfit I wore to dinner Friday night...the top is actually my first purchase from Envy! There were just so many great pieces there, I had to put a few on hold last weekend, and come back the next day to make the purchase!

Brown ostrish print purse- Guess- Walsh Luggage (Spring '09)
Polka dot coat- Kensie Girl- Liquidation World (March '10)
Mint green top- Mustard Seed- Envy (a week ago)
Skinny jeans- Nissi Jeans- Pseudio (April '10)

Pearl bracelets- Le Chateau (Dec '09)

sweet/rough...

On her blog, What I Wore, as well as on her twitter page, Jessica Schroeder issued another fashion challenge to us fellow style bloggers:
"WIW Weekend Style Challenge: Sweet/Rough. I wanna see how you take one delicate piece and mix it up with something edgy! Deadline: MON MIDNT"
So I peered into the extensive depths of my closet and tried to brainstorm an outfit. I also lightly browsed the racks of my favourite shops (something new always makes an outfit feel special), but when I woke up on Saturday moring I randomly picked up 2 pieces of clothing out of my spare room and mentally filled in the rest of the blanks. I took a romantic piece and mixed it with a few edgier, textured pieces. Here's my translation of a look that combines aspects of "sweet" and "rough".

Please excuse the garbage I somehow failed to notice...oops.
