fancy pants...

New Brunswick Fashion Week (NBFW) may have come and gone in a flash, but not my love for coloured denim. I decided to dress these red jeggings up with a blazer from a friends closet for the event.

The Outfit: T-shirt: American Eagle (SJ, Summer '09) | Necklace: Splurge (Halifax, Spring '08)
Jeggings: American Eagle (ordered online, Sept '11) | Earrings: Esquared- Silver Daisy (SJ, July '11)
Heels: Steve Madden- Urban Shoe Myth (SJ, Mar '11)

With so many events over the last few weeks, I scouted my friend Katie's closet to tid me over from being tempted to buy new items. This blazer and an H&M blouse were the items she kindly lent me before she headed off for a the long weekend in New York City. It seems many people I know have just been getting back or heading off to NYC. At dinner at my parents house tonight my sister tells me she randomly ended up staying at the Empire Hotel (think: Gossip Girl) through Hotwire and spotted Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, and Ed Westwick filming in the lobbly. (Majorly jealous!)

the new jegging

Since the revival of 70's style, I've been seriously craving wide leg jeans. Not just a boot cut or flare with a fitted thigh- I wanted the real deal, but they seem challenging to find. Last Saturday I sat on the ottoman by Je Suis Prest Boutique's changing rooms watching and weighing in with my opinion as the Katies tried on pretty summer dresses. Then Joy, as she is oh so good at doing, holds up an item that she suggests I may like.

Although I had been determined to stay out of the changing room myself (because it all goes down hill from there!), I couldn't resist trying on these soft wide-leg trousers that mimicked denim. Essentially they were jeggings in wide-leg form: stretchy and comfortable. Of course, as soon as I got them on, they were as good as sold. As far as pants go, I've been a jeggings and skinnies girl for some time now, but I can tell you these are going to get plenty of wear within my wardrobe!

The Outfit
  • T-shirt: American Eagle (SJ, April '10)
  • Vest: American Eagle (SJ, Fall '09)
  • Trouser: !iT jeans- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, May '11)

  • Necklace: Splurge (Halifax, May '08)

spring camouflage...

I think all this rain we've been drowning in has finally paid off- because finally I'm starting to see leaf buds popping up all over the city! Which is good with my wedding is coming up in 2.5 weeks! I'd hate to see the only greenery be fake with our black and white garden party theme!

I wore this particular outfit on a busy Saturday: first for coffee and shopping uptown with the Katies, then I was off to Charity Chic in search of great finds, followed by a 3 year old's birthday party, and finally a dinner and movie date with Tabor.

(Left) Pink OPI nail colour I had painted at Charity Chic.
(Right) Two shades of green nail colour (OPI Gargantuan Grape & Inglot 320) from early in the day

The Outfit

Dress: Lovelygirl- Twisted Muse (Halifax, July '10)
Sweater: Abercrombie & Fitch (Bangor, Nov '09)
Tights: We Love Colours in Mocha (ordered online, March '11)
Shoes: Nine West (Freeport, Nov '10)
Headband: Splurge (Halifax, Fall '09)
Gold necklace: Banana Republic (Freeport, Nov '10)
Floral necklace: ESquared- Silver Daisy Designs (SJ, May '11)

When I went to Silver Daisy Designs last week it was actually to look for a necklace to go with my ensemble I have picked out for my bachelorette coming up- however the new stash of ESquared Jewels caught my eye and I easily fell in love with a couple pieces. It took me longer to decide on what I had actually come for while this green floral Esquared piece was a no brainer. I just love the look and feel of what Erin and Emily create.

Remember I said to stay tuned to a special announcement on how you can gain yourself a few more entries into the Urban Shoe Myth Giveaway? Check back at noon today for more details!

Easter Sunday

My second one this season- I've fallen in love with the maxi dress. And who can pass up a cute and comfortable dress for $30? That's what I love about H&M- you can pick up seasonal staples without really having to pry open the piggy bank.

Easter weekend we had dinner with B's family Saturday evening and my family Sunday. These photos were snapped by B outside in my parents' backyard.

The Outfit
  • Military shirt: Mango (Toronto, June '10)
  • Maxi dress: H&M (Moncton, April '11)
  • Belt: H&M (Toronto, Sept '10)
  • Necklace: Banana Republic (Freeport, Nov '10)
  • Sandals: Steve Madden- The Urban Shoe Myth (SJ, Apr '11)
  • Headband: Splurge (Halifax, Fall '09)
Hope the Easter bunny found your all!

P.S. Stay tuned- I have an exciting giveaway coming up beginning of next week!

blue peacock...

Last Friday, I sat across the table from Patience Cole at Starbucks, chatting about style and hair accessories. It's always awesome to meet an entrepreneurial woman in Saint John who is passionate about what she does- and I've had the pleasure of meeting many within the last year!

Patience creates unique hairpieces and started her own business, Band Geek, a couple of years ago. Patience's face lights up as she talks about her work and pursuing a career she loves. She uses non-typical and creative materials to create her headbands, sold at local stores in KV as well as her online Etsy Store. Patience kindly made me the headband featured with the outfit below- she created the piece by getting ideas from the outfit posts of my blog.

The Outfit
  • Head band- c/o Band Geek (Feb '11)
  • Top- Kensie- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, Dec '09)
  • Leggings- C'est Moi- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, Nov '10)
  • Boots- Aldo (gifted from my parents, Dec '09)
  • Necklace- Splurge (Halifax, May '08)

Her latest project involves helping to raise funds towards the rescue and relief efforts in Japan. Taking inspiration from Japanese prints, fashions, and fabrics, for every headband she sells from this collection, $1 will go to help those in Japan who have lost so much. Be sure to check out Band Geek's current selection of head bands and hair accessories and stay tuned for Patience's Japanese styled pieces.

Writing this blog over the past year as given the opportunity to meet so many great people, Patience being one of them! I especially love meeting creatives in the city with a mutual interest in fashion and style.

the classic LBD...

Two weeks ago I attended a ladies' black dress party uptown with friends, ending the night at the Canterbury Lounge. One thing that is considered for all women to have in their closet in the little black dress (typically abbreviated to LBD). Given that, and my over-stuffed closet, can you believe that I only have one black dress...?

  • Necklace- Anne Marie Chagnon (Montreal, June '09)

Hope to see you out (whether you want to sell and/or browse- so mark your calendars ladies! Kiera has kindly offered to help me sort through and part with some of my items before the big day- this should be interesting!

an apple a day...

As I mentioned Monday, I braved the snow storm last Friday to check out the sale at The Black Dog Boutique. And, of course, I didn't leave empty-handed! Trying on clothing at this store is like going to visit Jill at her own place. It's a cozy spot with a great, attentive hostess! This Eve Gravel top was one of the purchases that I immediately fell in love with.

modcloth virgin

I entered a new right of passage when I signed for a package on my doorstep Friday afternoon. It's hard to believe, but despite being a long-time window-shopper of ModCloth, I am only a first time buyer.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the online outfitter, ModCloth is an online store that features current on-trend women's apparel as well as vintage finds. They stock everything from dress, pants, scarves, tights and costume jewelry....there's never a time I don't browse their site that I don't have a longing for a particular item...or many! ModCloth is also fairly popular among the style blogging community.

We all know I have little will power when it comes to shopping, so why have I only lost my ModCloth virginity now? I suppose it has to do with my hesitance with online clothing shopping...there's so much you can find out about a garment only by trying it on....and sometimes on the rack it looks fab, but it just might not be right for me. However, I do appreciate that ModCloth posts a size chart on every clothing item they sell (as well as free domestic returns) and sometimes, a risk in online ordering is just like a risk in fashion- following your gut can turn out to be a beautiful thing!

The Outfit
  • Dress- ModCloth (ordered online, Jan '11)
  • Sequin tights- ModCloth (ordered online, Jan '11)
  • Black belt- taken from an Eve Gravel skirt- Black Dog Boutique (SJ, Dec '10)
  • Shoes- Aldo (Toronto, Dec '09)
  • Black clutch- Coach (Freeport, Nov '10)
  • Heart locket- Splurge (Halifax, May '08)

So, yeah, a positive experience has made me a customer that is guaranteed to be a repeat shopper! Although my international shipping order was only $21 in shipping, my friend Katie and I ordered together to split on the cost. Definitely worth it. We placed our order Sunday night and the package was in my hands by Friday afternoon...in time to wear my new lovely pieces to Shauna's birthday party that night!

My love for this mustard yellow colour has been inspired by fellow fashion bloggers sporting this hue: Kendi of Kendi Everday, Liz of 26 and Counting, Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere, and Bee of Atlantic-Pacific.

If ModCloth is a new title to you, read a little more about the company here. You can also follow them on Twitter and FacebookClick here to start shopping. Happy browsing ladies! I'd love to know what's on your wishlist from ModCloth!

Pssst. Friends, next time you order from ModCloth be sure to message me if you're local- I may want to stick something in your box and split the shipping costs! ;)
