short, short summer...

I apologize my post have been a little infrequent and less steady than before. I find that's what can happen once summer comes along- I find my schedule becoming incredibly busy and then you feel compelled to get out and make the best of the good weather on top of that- because, let's face it, in this part of the world our summer seems to be so short that you need to soak up every. last. ray. We take our sunshine and warm weather very seriously around here!

Last week was another mix of humidity and fog when I headed uptown for Fusion's Newcomer Night at Happinez. This outfit was my answer to combining the need for for a somewhat casual outfit that also included a dress- like I said these summer dress days are limited!

wedding shower...

Today marks a week from two events: my last blog post before my wedding and the last day to enter the Urban Shoe Myth Giveaway! So be sure to get your entries in before the deadline to win that $100 gift certificate! A new pair of beautiful shoes could be in your future!

Below is the outfit I wore to my family wedding shower hosted at my grandmother's house. Although my last single girl post comes next Tuesday, don't worry, I won't be leaving you hanging! Until I return from the last minute wedding prep, nuptial celebrations, mini vacation, and then the aftermath I will be leaving you in excellent hands! Some of my favourite girls with great style will be filling in with guests posts while I'm away!

Sean McGrath Photo Shoot (Part 2)

Outfit two from the photo shoot with Sean McGrath was shot in an alley uptown. The alley that ended up being more of a wind tunnel than a shelter from the gale gusts! We would take a few photos and then I would grab my jacket and jump up and down to stay warm while we waited for vehicles to pass by in the alley.

I picked up these thigh-high knit socks when browsing the 80's reminescent American Apparel a couple of weekends ago while visiting girl friends in Halifax. As I approached the cash with them tucked under my arm, I noticed one of the sales girls was wearing the exact same pair. She was very enthausiatic about my choice, tossing up her skirt to show me how far they rolled up (secondary to letting me know she was wearing bloomers). She said they went up high enough to be like pants...and then just dropped the "like" altogether and next thing I know she was calling them pants! I loved her enthausium but can't say I agreed on the pants part...that was a bit of a stretch...

twisted muse opens a new set of closet doors to halifax fashionistas...

Sweet Pea owner Johanna Galipeau has opened a second boutique in downtown Halifax, titled Twisted Muse. An article on The Coast's website has identified the shop as Sweet Pea's "alter ego". The store just opened its doors last Monday above Mills on Spring Garden Road. I was looking forward to checking the store when I was in Halifax this past weekend (for my friend Marielle's bachelorette party).

In the front doors of Mills, and up the stairs you will find Twisted Muse's assortment of edgier and more casual pieces. (While I'd call Sweet Pea the girlier, dressier version to its sister store.) You'll find the likes of BB Dakota, lovelygirl, Alternative Apparel, and other great labels. Service was helpful, friendly, and best of all- I encountered a no tax special that day! I loved most of what she had in store and took half the store into the dressing store with me to try on...

The decor is lovely and the dressing rooms (as you can see above) almost seem like you are within a forest. The brightly lit store is a mix of rich wooden tones and edgy metal features. The clothing is organized in colour code and is a collective mix of flowly and form-fitting with interesting pieces of texture or eye catching patterns. Though the pieces are more casual and less delicate than those choosen for Sweet Pea, they definitately have a very feminine quality that is both trendy and stylish for those looking for a fabulous outfit. 

There were so many pieces that I wanted to adopt and take home with me, but I settled on a lovelygirl dress (to be featured in my next post) that was appropriate for both work and play. I may not have been able to get to Sweet Pea (the gay pride parade made crossing to the other side of Spring Garden an impossible feat), but checking out Twisted Muse was definitely the high point of my shopping excursion while in Halifax.

This weekend past I was in Halifax to visit some of my wonderful friends!

Unfortunately I did come across some disappointing news driving into Halifax this time. When we drove past Peepshow Girly Boutique on Barrington, I gasped and Ben knew it wasn't good. I was saddened to find out that one of my favouite boutiques had closed in the last couple months...

But now, on with the good stuff! On Friday evening we all caught up over margaritas and Mexican-themed appetizers. The next day we followed the usual Saturday afternoon routine of brunch at Cora's and then shopping along Spring Garden Road.

American Apparel

I was mesmerized by the wall of coloured and patterned tights!

So many choices! Bold hues, 2-toned, water colour, geo-mesh, fish-net, and other patterns! I just stood there and stared...

In the end I decided on these:

I also purchased this lace print nylon tricot 3/4 sleeve dress:

Though I have to say I would never wear white tights with this dress!

Then Christine led us up Queen Street to Sweet Pea, which I had surprisingly never been to, but had heard a lot about before. 

I loved the selection, the staff was friendly and sweet, and now I can say this boutique is one of my favouite stores. I didn't realize how long the wait for the dressing room was before I had set aside 7 dresses to try on...but the wait was worth it!

This emerald green People's Market dress caught my eye and I almost didn't try it on because of the price. In the end it was too beautiful not to buy (and the store owner generously cut me a discount)! This is exactly the shade of green I want for the bridesmaid dresses.

(On a side note, remember the Lost dress I purchased last week? Well I saw the same dress in Sweet Pea, but I had gotten it at Je Suis Prest for $15 less!)
