pink lemonade margaritas...

Sometimes nothing is better than a Saturday night with your girl friends. Doing your make-up together, sipping on wine or cocktails, and laughing at each other's stories. I've had a lot of fun the last two weekends, having the opportunity to hit the town with some of my favourites.

Pink lemonade + skinny girl margarita= one tasty drink!
I need this Urban Decay palette Katie has.
Arm party!
I never really go anywhere without my camera.
We ended the night with an appetizer and socializing at Britt's pub.

The Outfit  Dress: Jack BB Dakota (Je Suis Prest Boutique) | Wedges: Aldo | Tights: Walmart
Belt: Eddie Bauer | Cuff bracelet: Esquared (Silver Daisy Designs) | Bangles: Aldo | Necklace: H&M
Sweater: Press (Je Suis Prest Boutique)

How was your weekend? My weekend was a blast- double date with friends at a local sushi spot on Friday, the Urban Glam party (featuring new holiday wear from Je Suis Prest Boutique and The Urban Shoe Myth) followed by dancing at the Canterbury, and then coffee and browsing the Christmas flea market yesterday. It's funny how the weekends are supposed to be our down time from the week- but I like to pack mine with as much time with friends as possible!

Stay tuned! Tomorrow the photos from the Urban Glam party will be up on my blog and the Facebook page. Thanks to the girls at Je Suis Prest, Urban Shoe Myth, and Design 4 Space for an amazing time! The added bonus is that proceeds from the evening went to a great cause: The Coverdale Centre, a drop-in centre for women in Saint John providing shelter and case management services to assist in addictions, mental health issues, employment and affordable housing.

Fashion Forward...

Two weeks ago, Uptown Saint John hosted Fashion Forward...An Uptown Affair for the first time. Considered Saint John's version of Fashion's Night Out: many Uptown shops stayed open late to spoil their customers with special deals, draws, and promotions. There were plenty of demos and samples- and many stores served food and some even a glass of bubbly!

The Outfit:  Skirt: Gentle Fawn- Je Suis Prest (SJ, Oct '11) | Necklace: Aldo (Moncton, Aug '11)
Blouse: Mink Pink: Silver Daisy (SJ, Oct '11) | Socks: American Apparel (Halifax, Mar '11)
Trench: BB Dakota- Je Suis Prest (SJ, Sept '11) | Nails: Essie- Walmart (SJ, Sept '11)
Shoes: Michael Kors- Urban Shoe Myth (SJ, Sept '11) | Belt: Eddie Bauer (Moncton, Aug '06)

I wore this outfit wore that evening in pursuit of the best deals with friends. I ended up with a top on lay away at Silver Daisy, boots on lay away at Urban Shoe Myth, a new sweater (already featured on the blog) from Je Suis Prest, and then cheetah print pumps for 20% off at Manchester! To check out the photos I snapped at various stores throughout the evening, be sure to take a look of the photos I posted on Facebook later that night:

crop top...

One trend that has come back this summer has been the 90's crop top- but with its own twist of course. Unfortunately this is a tricky look to pull off and not flattering at all. I'm not in the tip top shape I want to be (but I'm working on it!) so belly-baring tops are off the table for me. The twist to wearing a crop top this summer is to pair it with a high waisted pant in order to allow more women to pull this look off and look good doing it- the idea isn't to try and bare a lot of skin. Less is more!

Where top crops tend to be flowy, this look doesn't tend to look good with my body type, they stop right at the widest part of my body- my hips and cover up my more narrow waist. On the end, I look wider and boxy: not flattering.

But with the crop top below, I just loved the pattern and decided I'd wear it with a pair of jean shorts as a beach cover-up. Then, I got the idea of belting it with a high-waisted skirt to keep it modest but also work with my body's curves.

The Outfit
  • Crop top- American Eagle (SJ, July '11)
  • Skirt- American Apparel (Halifax, April '07)
  • Belt: Eddie Bauer (Moncton, August '06)
  • Necklace: Banana Republic (Freeport, Nov '10)
  • Hat: Gap (Moncton, July '11)
  • Scarf around hat: Coach (Toronto, Sept '08)
  • Espadrilles: Steve Madden- The Urban Shoe Myth (SJ, June '11)

Sometimes we have to remember that all trends aren't going to flatter all body types (I know I've stayed clear of a few myself)- or you can transform or modify them to make them your own! The most important thing is knowing what you feel comfortable it and knowing what looks good on you! Just like it's never truly one size fits all, it's never should be one look suits all.

april showers bring...

...may flowers. This outfit I wore to purchase a new Blackberry Saturday morning. Unfortuantely, due to, in part, my own stupidity and finished off with the sticky fingers of another- I misplaced my old Blackberry, and then it was snatched up by someone at the tapas bar my sister and I had drinks and appetizers at in Moncton on Thursday evening.

The good news is that we found a white dress for me to wear to the bachelorette coming up next month! Sadly, however, I was coming back from Moncton on Friday minus one phone. I went 36 hours without my Blackberry and I'm a little ashamed to admit it made be realize how attached I am to my phone! I had so many impulses to message friends, take a photo to send to someone, update my status according to something funny or interesting, check the time, set my alarm...you name it. For every person who might not understand my attachment, I know there is equally a number of you that are recognizing my experience as a complete nightmare!

Saturday morning, I donned a new floral skirt, and headed straight down the hill to the Bell store to reconnect to my digital life (aka buy a new Blackberry).

The Outfit
  • Skirt: H&M (Moncton, April '11)
  • Hoisery: Hue- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, Mar '11)
  • Shoes- Aldo (Moncton, April '11)
  • T-shirt: Joe Fresh Style (SJ, Feb '11)
  • Belt: Eddie Bauer (Moncton, Aug '06)
  • Sweater: American Eagle (SJ, Sept '08)

So prior to my expensive mistake, I also picked up these shoes from Aldo to replace my other everyday brown flats that were now officially worn out. And though they appear lighter in these photos, the pantyhose are actually mint green in person!

All in all, I was happy to get a dress I was really excited about for my bachelorette, plus a few other spring wardrobe finds! I've started tucking those winter clothing items away- have you?

photo adventure...

On the rainy Sunday past, Emma (aka Darling Dilemma) and I sat in Tim Hortons uptown, sipping coffee and chatting. One of our conversations focused on the interesting reality of what connections Twitter can bring- who we've met based on followings and the opportunities it has provided us each. I initially came into contact with Emma last fall when I came across her as a Saint Johner with jewellery site on Esty and proposed I help promote her designs through a giveaway on my blog. She's one of those lovely people I'm glad I've gotten the chance to know after networking online.

King Street and Brunswick Square were both bare, but things were hopping in Market Square! Emma, being a bit more of a knowledgeable photographer than myself took my outfit photos that day and in exchange I was happy to accessorize my outfit with some of her designs! I'm not the first local blogger she has teamed up with as a fun way to promote her brand- she and Melissa (Sigh Gush Gasp)- got together last month for their own photo adventure uptown (click here and here)!

Here's the results of our indoor collaboration due to the less than stellar weather that day!

Despite the dismal weather outside, this was my first time sporting sandals this year- and I had just picked up these cute, comfy, go-with-everything wedges from The Urban Shoe Myth on Friday during their Grand Opening (and 20% off sale)!

Disclosure: In working with the lovely Emma, she took my outfit photos with her camera and edited them in exchange for modelling and displaying a selection of her necklaces that I felt were a good fit with my personal style.

utilitarian garden...

This week has been a busy blogging week- I've been trying to play catch up on my 30 for 30 posts, fighting a heavy chest and head cold, and meanwhile there's a lot of current fashionable happenings to cover! This has lead me to double up on blogging to cover all my current interests as well as posting  for Kendi's 30 for 30 fashion challenge I've been participating in.

Oh, and by the way, you should really check out some of my fellow remixers! (I plan to eventually do a post showcasing my favourite fellow remixers somewhere along this 30 outfit journey...it's on the long list of great blog post ideas I have been jotting down.)

For this outfit, I took a floral print summer dress and paired it with a military shirt, boots and tights to make it more seasonally appropriate. I wore this outfit Monday for a day of work and to attend the Customer Appreciation Event at Reflections Day Spa that evening.
