TTFF (2): Fancy Footwear

A girl always loves an excuse to buy shoes! There have been a few new styles in stores and gracing the pages of magazines that have caught my eye. I've even opened up to styles I've never thought I would wear before. That's one of the things I love about fashion. The experimental nature of it. Check out below some of the latest trends in footwear and then I will let you know what I am dying to add to my shoe collection!

Open-Toed Booties

The open-toed bootie is a look that seems to have emerged slowly from either open toed pumps that grew into boot form or the gladiator heel that evolved into the caged heel that then morphed into a version appropriate for the cooler weather of fall. Last year I wasn't really feeling ankle boots, but this year I'm hooked!

Closed-Toe Booties

The reason why I separated open and closed toe booties was because of the climate in New Brunswick. Open toe booties....a trendy, edgy way to wear a boot in warmer weather...but here, I might freeze my little toes off come October. A closed-toe booty might go the longer stretch and present more opportunities to be worn outdoors.

Clogs

I have to admit, since the time they started to re-emerge in Spring 2010, clogs haven't really grown on me. Although I personally don't prefer the chunky look myself, some bloggers have managed to incorporate the shoe into their ensembles and really make it work for them.

Oxfords

Oxfords, otherwise known as Balmorals, are a menswear inspired shoe that has been updated since their origin in the 1800's. Fashion is all about recycling ideas afterall. This laced flat shoe has received many versions of a make-over and can be paired from everything to pants, crops, skirts, and casual dresses.

This fall I have my sights set on a pair of booties and a pair of oxfords. I decided it would be more practical to go with the closed-toe booty, although I do love the look of the open-toed versions. I'll likely stick to neutrals to maximize cost-per-wear- so likely one set of shoes will be brown, the other black.

What shoes are you looking forward or buying/wearing for fall?

quest for the green shoes...

Last Sunday, Kristen and I headed out to browse shops on Bloor Street West in search of a pair of green shoes I could wear for my wedding (see previous post) and any other beautiful finds that might cross our path.

The Outfit

  1. Green military shirt- Mango (2 days prior in the Eaton Center)

  2. Braided belt- Eddie Bauer (Moncton, 4 yrs ago)

  3. Skinny jeans- Nissi jeans- Pseudio (Spring '10)

  4. Sandals- Clarks- Winners (Spring '10)

  5. Sunglasses- Michael Kors- TJ Maxx (April '09)
So the last picture shows one small problem I encountered last weekend- a cold. I had a hard time speaking and my voice varied from sounding like an elderly woman who's just smoked 2 packs, from a creepy whisper, to a raspy version of my former self. But I wasn't going to let that slow me down- I carried cough syrup and Advil cold & sinus around like they were my best buddies. I'm still suffering from said cold but at least I don't sound nearly as awful!

Our first stop was to H&M. I have to hand it to this store- this is a great place to buy trendy pieces without breaking the bank. Most of the time I splurge on tops and dresses- because they tend to be the pieces that make an outfit for me and finding the perfect fit in a pair of pants might be more of a challenge. I decided that I had already bought enough new clothing to cover my upper half and today was strictly about covering the bottom half! I scored at H&M with 3 pairs of shorts for only $20 each, and 2 cute skirts (one of which was only $15).

As for the shoe search, this venture wasn't successful this time around but I will keep looking! And I wanted to thank everyone who sent me links to green shoes already- I so appreciate the help! I haven't found anything that quite fits what I'm looking for, but I've got 12 months to go! Please do send any other suggestions my way if you happen to wander across something that might fit the bill!

Here are the lovely shoes we did encounter that afternoon in the shoe section of Holt Renfrew!

sex and the city shoe preview...

Wow, my 50th post on this blog! I can't believe I've spent enough time on here to write and assemble 50 posts already! So with that, I'm going to share something a little special and I'm going to do another Sex and the City feature at the same time. I'm sure by now that it will surprise none of you that I've purchased a new pairs of shoes and that I've bought them for fun to wear to the movie this coming week! I've also decided I'm going to give you a sneak peak...

I can guarantee you I'll pretty much have Sex and the City on continuous flow this week (I've already watched every episode many times in the past to the point that I can quote them...) In fact, I'm watching it right now, but with a very specific investigative purpose. Remember the last episode of Season 4, I heart NY, when Carrie has to have the pink Christian Louboutin sandals, approaches the window and says, "Hello lover."

Well, I saw a pair of heels that seemed to reflect the same feminine, romantic feel to them as Carrie Bradshaw's Christian Louboutins (although thankfully I didn't need to break the bank by comparison). I had picked out a pair of pretty pink suede platform sandals with feminine ruffle details and heels like stilts. They arrived on my doorstep last Thursday.

Hello lover!

These babies bring me up about 4 inches...

Love, love, love...

To go with my lovely new shoes, I've scheduled a pedicure at Perfumes Plus for Thursday afternoon. I've invited friends over to my place for a cocktail that evening and then we'll head out to see Sex and the City 2! Can't wait!

It's getting to be that time of year to bring out the open toed shoes! We're well into spring!
Though I'll be looking for something more affordable come that time to slip into sandals, I thought it might be fun to drool over the high end as well as cost effective beauties!
