just peachy...

Honestly, before this fall, I rarely wore hoisery...even in the winter months. I hardly ever wore dresses or skirts in the cold periods, reasoning being obvious. I'm not really sure why or if I had an opposition to pantyhose before, but I have to say it's made a huge difference in my wardrobe and extended the wear of items that were just seasonal before. As I planned my outfit for a formal I attended this past weekend, wearing bare legs with my dress didn't even occur to me as an option. But the last two years I would have never wore pantyhose. Interesting how your outlook and style can change all of a sudden.

The Outfit
  • Grey sleeves (shrug): DEPT- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, April '10)
  • Coral top: French Connection (Toronto, June '10)
  • Dress: Lush- Envy (SJ, Dec '10)
  • Belt (from another skirt): Eve Gravel- The Black Dog Boutique (SJ, Dec '10)
  • Tights (in light orange): We Love Colors (ordered online, Mar '11)
  • Boots: Town Shoes (Halifax, Oct '07)
  • Ring: Silpada (jewelry party, Summer '10)

You purchase the right fit of pantyhose and they are actually comfortable. They're also a saving grace for my pale legs. They also double as shapewear and give everything a more firm appearance, even if you haven't been to the gym in months. Pantyhose have become a secret weapon for women. And when you look good, you feel good!

a fashion social!

Last night was an event I have had been looking forward to over the last couple weeks. Silver Daisy Designs hosted a "fashion social" at the Canterbury Lounge last night, which involved mingling, drinks, prizes, a silent auction and a fashion show featuring their latest clothing lines in store. Most importantly, the focus behind this fun event: all proceeds were donated to a local girl experiencing a serious illness to help cover medical related expenses. It was great to have an excuse to dress up on a week night and lovely to see fellow fashion enthusiasts all the while supporting a great cause!

The Outfit
  • Dress: DEPT- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, March '10)
  • Blazer: R&W Co. (SJ, May '10)
  • Pantyhose: Secret- Walmart (SJ, March '11)
  • Purse: Coach (Toronto, Sept '10)
  • Shoes: Guess- Winners (Toronto, Sept '08)
  • Necklace: Silver Daisy Designs (SJ, March '11)

Above is the outfit I wore to the fashion social. I was rushing out the door to meet friends at Churchill's for dinner in advance and realized my pantyhose had a serious run. This was not something a little clear nail polish could fix. I had to make a quick trip to pick up a new pair! I haven't had the best track record with hosiery this week: I've managed to destroy two pairs! And on the topic of hosiery, I also picked my my latest package from We Love Colors with a few colourful pairs of tights- which I figure is a good way to fight off the winter blahs!

Anyways, last night was a great time: kudos to Kate and crew as well as the Canterbury for throwing a great event! Silver Daisy Designs is now on Twitter so be sure to follow via @silverdaisyd! Be sure to stay tuned for photos from the event and fashion show to be posted on the blog early next week!

five foreshadows for spring

Despite the fact that we're buried under abour 3 feet of snow, and I was stranded in my house today due to the fact that I couldn't get the car beyond the driveway...I can't stop mesmerizing about spring fashion. Perhaps it's just me longing for those days in the foreseeable future that I don't have to wear about 8 layers or cover my outfit with a parka. Maybe it's just excitement at the chance to sort through my closet...in preparation of "out with the old, in with the new" spring cleaning.

Here are 5 trends I'm forecasting for this spring:

No. 1
Warm Pinks
(corals, peaches)

No. 2
Florals
(ever-so classic)

No. 3
Lace
(a touch of feminine)

No. 4
Wide-Leg Trousers
(menswear-inspired)

No. 5
Platforms & Wedges
(sky-high sophistication)

So what styles and trends are you looking forward to this spring?

This Friday I had intended to host another giveaway...but we've just had to post-pone it until next week. I promise, this one's worth waiting for! Can't wait to reveal it to you all!

wish list for my fav store...

I  haven't been able to invest in much as far as fall fashions go this season and it's slowly killing me! Although I may be being slightly melodramatic I'm watiting to be able to afford to add a few new pieces to my wardrobe. Check out my wish list I recently added to the right sidebar.

I made a stop by Je Suis Prest Boutique the other day and snapped photos for my ever-growing wish list!

I envision this top with a black 3/4 or long sleeved top underneath to make it warm for Fall weather.

Perfect with a pair of skinny jeans or skinny olive cargos!
(Oh wait, Kiera does have the Free People skinny cargos in...which would be on
my list if I hadn't already sworn myself to the Paige ones...)

This heather grey cotton top would be perfect for a casual day in jeans.

Option to cinch at the waist flatters the female form. You could wear this untucked with
a part of skinny pants or jeggings. Would look fab tucked in with a high waisted skirt.

Long cardigans are one of my person faves. Cozy for the cooler weather,
they allow you to wear shorter sleeves while elongating your torso
(which is great is you have a shorter one like me!)

I love how versatile this dress is- wear it with a casual sweater, black leggings,
or strut your stuff in a pair of killer heels and bare legs. Fabulous that it
incorporates some of fall's hotest colours.

Again, fabulous fall colours. Perfect with a pair of leggings (grey or black) or a pair of
skinny jeans. I love any excuse to be stylish while wearing loose tops and stretchy bottoms!

Right on trend for fall, I love the variety this dress could bring to possible outfits: as is, with a cute pair of heels or flats; with leggings or tights to keep warm with a chilly fall breeze, or top with a blazer or sweater.

Dress up with a pair of pumps or cozy up with a thick cardigan and flats.
I love the gentle feminity that comes with this design.

Do you know how hard it is to find a decent pair of brown leggings?
Black and grey, no problem...but brown, not as easy a find.
The plus: I love the soft clothing Alternative Apparel makes!

Coat with faux fur collar
And I wish I could tell you the brand, but it escapes my mind except
that it starts with a G! If you love it as much as I do, just describe it to
Kiera, Joy or Meg and they can point you in the right direction!

My favourite coat from the Jack collection that I hope to be sporting by the time the snow hits!

This was one of my absolute favs when the fall line first came in- and I actually own it now
despite the fact it's still a little to warm to be wearing it yet! Since it is on the bulky side,
I will be pairing it with skinny pants- either jeans, black jeggings, or cargos!

There's talk of putting a dark top under your summer wears to transition into fall.
I would definitely see this dress being pulled off with a black long
sleeved tee and a pair of black tights.

A brown trench coat is considered a women's staple, and I don't yet own one!
I love this one that can be worn with a dressy or causal ensemble.

I'm telling you, faux is in this fall (whether it be leather or fur)! But it needs to
look authentic if you're going to fake it. I love this jacket- goes with the casual or
add a funky edge to an otherwise girly outfit.

Let me know what your must-haves are for fall!
What have you already bought and what's on your wish list?

last days of august...

I cannot believe it's already become September! This summer has flown by. During the last couple of days in August Ben and I were taking a few country drives with the windows down after getting our regular Starbucks! (haha I like to joke we're an old couple) Last night we drove up the Saint John River to visit our friend Laura (who was home for a bit- she lives in Bermuda now) in the little historic town of Gagetown. We had a few drinks at the local pub- the Old Boot, got a few mosquitos bites while we were at it. Saturday Ben and I cruised out to Grand Bay to pick up a few things we'd left at my parents' and then took the ferry and drove across the peninsula, stopping for ice cream at the other end in Hampton!

The Outfit

  1. Dress- Dept- Je Suis Prest Boutique (SJ, May '10)

  2. Bronze belt- American Eagle (SJ, at least 5-6 yrs ago?)

  3. Green braid head band- the original belt from my dress!

  4. Leaf necklace- gift from Ben (May '10)

  5. Sandals- Sam Edelman- Olam (Montreal, June '09)
I last posted this dress when I got it back in May and Kiera let me know she had a dress that was perfect for me in her store. Although, this is only the second time this Dept dress has appeared on my blog, it has been my go-to dress this summer for something ccasual, omfortable, breezy, and easy to move in. Perfect for shopping (easy to get on and off, compared to wearing multiple pieces) or really hot days! This time I switched things up a bit and threw on a different belt and decided to use the dress's fabric belt to hold my hair back.

Check out some of the photo-logging I did from our drive across the peninsula.

i scream, you scream, we all scream for...

One bonus of writing a personal style blog: others get to know your tastes. And that can be a perk when I get a message about a piece that would be a "Chelsea dress"- how can I not help but want to go look immediately?! New DEPT pieces came in at Je Suis Prest this week, and Kiera and Joy found a dress that they thought would be perfect for me. I went into the store the next day and they were right. I loved it! Soft and comfortable fabrics, versatile (dress it up or down), bright colours, and a cut that was very suiting to my body type.

The Look:
Multicolour dress- DEPT- Je Suis Prest Boutique (Friday)
Short purple trench- Kensie Girl (Liquidation World find for $20!- March '10)
Brown wedges- Aldo (ordered online about 2 months ago)
Gold leaf necklace- Gift from Ben

Ben and I went to the Pumpkin Patch yesterday for ice cream! He had his on a cone and for reasons related to my clumsiness, I always have mine in a dish! Later I added a long gold rope-like necklace as an anklet and gold eyeliner to complete the look for a night uptown- predrinks at Kate's apartment with some lovely ladies and then we were off to the usual watering hole- O'Learys!
