green shoes...

Of all days, I choose a day when it's raining cats and dogs to showcase a new pair of shoes. Remember my search for green shoes? In the end, I went a different way for my wedding shoes (particularly because I couldn't find the right green shoe that was low enough...) but I wasn't able to resist my favourite of the finalists- the Miz Mooz from The Urban Shoe Myth! (Speaking of which, did you enter the giveaway yet?)

The Outfit

  • Dress: Francesca (Portland, Nov '10)
  • Pantyhouse: ModCloth (ordered online, Jan '11)
  • Belt: Eve Gravel (The Black Dog Boutique, Dec '10)
  • Blazer: c/o Boa (Dec '10)
  • Earrings: Silver Daisy Designs (SJ, Feb '11)
  • Shoes: Miz Mooz (The Urban Shoe Myth, Apr '11)

Given the fact that more of my outfits feature my hair up rather than down, this is about the time I'd get it cut. But with a wedding in the works, I'm planning on wearing my hair back so naturally I need the length for now. I remember the days of undergrad when my hair was half way down my back, dyed from the box, 2 colours at a time, my pal Laura would cut my bangs, and my friends and I straightened our hair with an iron. (My aunt- also my hair dresser- is cringing if she happens to be reading this post..)

interview with shelley from urban shoe myth

In early March, a new shoe store made it's debut on King Street, in uptown Saint John. Owner Shelley Demerchant, a former construction engineer technologist, traded in her construction boots for something some more feminine footwear.

Hailing from a family of entrepreneurs, she wanted to transform her love of shoes into a real business by filling a niche that has been much needed by the women of the port city. With the growth we've observed in the uptown area, The Urban Shoe Myth was the perfect fit amongst other new venues, be they shops or restaurants.

From Idea to Construction: A Shoe Haven is Born

Shelley and Nick DeMerchant moved to Saint John 3 and a half years ago and are now fully immersed within the community. Shelley began to work on her business plan in May of last year. And after receiving financing in October, the project was put into motion.

Design4space did a brilliant job of developing a beautiful concept and bringing to life the modern vintage feel Shelley had envisioned for her store. With it's custom shelving, white hardwood floors, exposed brick, and gorgeous turquoise ceiling, the shoe store is presented as a contemporary space with the original heritage of the building preserved.

Variety is the Spice of Life

You'll find everything from a pair of Hunter rubber boots to a pair of elegant Stuart Weitzman stilettos within The Urban Shoe Myth. There's something to fit within all personal styles. Among the brands you'll find on the shelves, you'll find footwear from the likes of Nine West, Miz Mooz, Seychelles, Michael Kors, and more! Check out the video below for a virtual tour of the store!

Hanging from hooks (maybe with Shelley's own recycled heels!) on the brick walls are purses from Hobo International, Big Buddha, and Erin Templeton.

Shelley also brings in a limited number of handbags and sizes per shoe so that your purchase will be special and not something on everyone else's feet or over their arm.

What's in a Name?

For those of you who are Sex and the City fans (such as myself!), you'll remember when Carrie encountered her own urban shoe myth within the closets of Vogue in Season 5....

Within this gorgeous shoe store fit for the big city, you're bound to find a number of awe-inspiring shoes that you'll find in love with- just like Carrie with her mythical Mary Jane Manolos! I already own a few myself from Shelley's store!

Now the exciting part...

Tomorrow I'll be announcing a giveaway from Urban Shoe Myth!

and the popular choice is...

...the Stella McCartney sandals! Most of you did vote for the Stellas, followed by the Miz Mooz, and then the Ninas. I want to thank you all for your input to help me form an opinion on which shoes to wear to my wedding!

Personally, I haven`t decided which pair to go with yet. I agree with those of you that chose the Stella McCartney that it would be more typical of a wedding shoe. They are beautiful, but also almost $300! I did want a pair of beautiful designer shoes initially, but I suppose if I was to spring for a rather pricey shoe, I`d want it to be a pair I was in love with and would get ample wear out of.

The Nina Culver seemed to fit the requirements and are pretty, but I have no real attachment. The Miz Mooz, though initially I thought they might be a little casual as some of you suggested, they also seem to be a little more my style and I`d still be able to enjoy them after the wedding.

I`ll be sure to let you know once I make up my mind! Thanks for taking help me to form an opinion for the public gallery!

wedding shoes!

With my wedding 66 days away, my next big task is to choose the shoes. Last week I picked up my wedding dress from Lockhart's Weddings & Special Occasions in Sussex. Our primary colour for the wedding is is an emerald/shamrock green, which is to be the colour of the bridesmaids' dresses and the groomsmen's ties/pocket squares. I wanted to find a way to encorporate green into my outfit too, so why not on my feet? Thank you so much to those who sent me links with shoe suggestions: your help was very much appreciated!

It's great that I won't have to have my dress hemmed but I'm only limited to roughly 2 inches of heel in my chosen shoe otherwise the gown will lift off the ground! I'd really appreciate your help in deciding which shoes to wear the day of my wedding from my top 3 picks:

Please name your pick for which shoe I should wear on my wedding day by leaving a comment below! I'll be taking a tally from today until Sunday night. I'll report the most popular shoe recommendation on Monday!
