florals: Sigh Gush Gasp

I was so honoured when Chelsea e-mailed me and asked me to do a guest post for her blog.  I love her blog and her style.  I was really hoping to be able to get these outfit photos taken outside but no such luck with our weather here in the Maritimes lately.   Floral patterns are something I am tending to gravitate towards more this season.  I love the fun and feminine side they can add to an outfit.

Shirt – Dynamite, Jeans – True Religion, Shoes – Nine West, Bracelets – Smart Set

Also a huge congratulations to Chelsea and Ben! I am sure your wedding day will be nothing less than beautiful!! Thanks for stopping by and if you like you can swing by my blog here!

spring & summer looks from the runway: barbbarbbarb

When Chelsea asked me to do a guest post on her blog, I was thrilled! Our blogs are very different. I never post photos of myself or tell people what I’m wearing. It was very sweet of her to “step outside of the box” and include me in her plans.

(For the record, Today I’m wearing my “uniform”- a black v neck t-shirt, a pair of blue skinny jeans and a necklace.) On my blog, I tend to focus on the larger fashion picture – the runway!

About a year ago Chelsea and I got together to girl talk at Starbucks and the topic of runway collections came up. I confided that I spend more than that I care to admit browsing the pages of style.com. Have you been?

It’s the absolute best place to find straight off the runway fashions. You can search by designerseason, model and trend.

Here’s a snapshot of my favourite looks from the 2011 Spring/Summer and 2012 Resort collections.

{ Chanel Resort 2012 // Moschino SS2011 // Diane von Furstenberg SS2011 }

{ Rodarte SS2011 // Marc Jacobs SS2011 // Michael Kors SS2011 }

{ Jil Sander SS2011 // Marc by Marc Jacobs SS2011 // Lanvin SS2011 }

What are your favourite looks for Summer?

what to wear: summer weddings (Along the Shore)

Hello Lovelies! My name is Rebecca from Along the Shore and I am so happy to be doing a guest post for Chelsea as she gets married and goes on her honeymoon! I hope you are having a fabulous time dear!

Bright Ideas

Spring and summer are a time when you may be getting a lot of wedding invitations, and one thing I always am curious about is what to wear. There aren’t many hard and fast rules when going as a guest except for one - don’t wear white!! I can’t stress that enough!

Vintage Inspired

The only other important thing to look out for is whether the bride and groom specify any special requests as to what to wear. I’ve been to one wedding where the couple suggested we all wear shades of a certain colour, and another wear a bit of sparkle was suggested. But if there are no special suggestions, just keep in mind the venue and time of day and common sense should steer you in the right direction.

Fancy Floral

I have put together a few inspiration boards featuring some pretty dress trends that you may want to try if there are a number of weddings on your spring and summer calendar. You can't go wrong with bright, happy colours. Nothing says celebratory like vibrant jewel tones and joyful colours. Floral prints make a great choice for outdoor or garden venues, and the beauty of a vintage inspired dress is that they are classic and pretty shapes that can take you to any event in style.

I hope these have given you all a few ideas of what you might wear to summer weddings this year! I hope you'll come say hello sometime at Along the Shore - thanks again Chelsea for giving me the chance to guest post! Happy Honeymoon!

remixing my closet: Miss Melissa

Hello readers of Maritime Shopaholic! I'm Melissa from Miss Melissa and I am so excited that Chelsea asked me to do a guest post for her while she is off getting married! I have a mild obsession with weddings so I can't wait to see pictures and hear all about it!

When my blog became more focused on style last year, it didn't take long for me to start to panic. Thanks to Facebook I had a real fear of being caught in the same outfit twice. Facebook pictures turned getting dressed into a stressful ordeal. While picking out my outfit I used to try to figure out if pictures would be taken, what I had worn recently and who might see me that night (I even scrolled through Facebook pictures to see what I had been photographed in... slightly embarrassing to admit). Now I was supposed to purposely take pictures of my outfits and post them on a blog for people to see? Time to shop! and I did. I shopped my little heart out so I wouldn't show my readers the same item too often... that would be boring after all, right?

Wrong, all I did was rack up my Visa bill and end up with a bunch of items that I didn't really love.
Turns out, I hadn't given my readers enough credit. They know I'm a real girl on a real girls budget. They didn't care if I re-wore a piece of clothing as long as I wore it differently than the time before. So the shopping stopped (who am I kidding, it just slowed down) and I had to try to make outfits out of clothes I already owned.

Luckily, the word "remix" is now really huge in the style blogging world so it wasn't difficult to get into the habit of re-wearing pieces without fear. It also really helped me figure out which items in my closet were my favourites. To keep myself focused on remixing my current wardrobe I started to show my readers previous ways I'd worn certain items in each outfit in a collage at the bottom of each post.
So what did I learn during the Fall and Winter months about my remixing habits? That I love Blazers. Seriously, I started to worry that my readers were going to throw an intervention. I just love them so so much. Here are three of my favourites:

Do you have any items in your closet that you love as much as I love my blazers? Should we start a support group?

Thanks again Chelsea for allowing me to meet your lovely readers. I expect that you'll have photos from your wedding posted on your blog a few hours after the reception ends. ;) xo
